Bronx Voices is Live!

PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE!

Welcome to the web home of Bronx Voices. We're a group of artists who use poetry, music, dance, and spoken word to cultivate and heighten social awareness. To encourage communal global insight, we will be producing multimedia pieces in collaboration with all levels of artist to mentor artistic growth and audience awareness.

Conceived by seasoned performance artist D.L. Anderson and writer/publisher Lee Kottner, "Bronx Stories," is an interactive multimedia performance piece based on true stories from the young writers they worked with in their classes. While Ms. Anderson has been involved in many productions, this is her first collaboration with Kottner and the wonderful talent of the Bronx. This first piece will be performed by professionals of varying levels. April Jones, Caesar DelTrecco, Mary Kunicki, Andrew Baker, and Sonya Penya, along with some very inspiring young new talent, will give some very powerful interpretations of some equally powerful written words. In the tradition of “Spoon River,” several poets, dancers, and musicians will represent the spirit (alive and dead) of the Bronx in a narrative collage revealing how people survive the harsh urban streets of the Bronx through faith and how they rise above to realize their dreams. This poetic, musical cluster of monologues, dance, and song captures the heart and soul of the Bronx.

Join us for a fundraising performance at the Arc Light Theater (152 W. 71st Street) on Tuesday, December 16th at 7:30 PM. The suggested donation of $20 goes to pay our artists, many of whom can barely afford the Metrocard to get to rehearsals or school, and to further develop Bronx Voices.

Celebrate the voices of the Bronx!
